A 20-year-old London man whose family have a house on Arran was found dead at the base of a cliff at Dunfion Point near Lamlash on Tuesday morning.
The man had not been seen since before lunchtime on Monday and was reported missing to the police around 9pm that night.
An extensive search was launched involving a Strathclyde police helicopter, a Sea King search and rescue helicopter from HMS Gannet, local police, coastguards, lifeboat crew and 20 members of the Arran Mountain Rescue team.
The man’s body was located by the Sea King helicopter crew and recovered by Strathclyde police officers at 6.30am on Tuesday.
A Strathclyde police spokesman said: ‘The death is presently being treated as unexplained and a post mortem examination will be arranged. A report will be prepared for the procurator fiscal.’
