An Arran schoolteacher is close to being named Ayrshire’s favourite teacher for 2008.
Jane Boyle, of Brodick, teaches all 16 children at Corrie Primary School from P1 up to P7.
She was nominated for the Best Teacher in the 2008 West Sound FM Community Awards competition and has got through to the final three. There are several other categories such as Best Neighbour and Unsung Hero.
Jane and the other two teachers from Troon and Irvine will be going to a presentation ceremony and announcement of the overall winner at Ayr Racecourse next Thursday.
She said: ‘Its really an accolade for the school, not me. Taking part in this competition has been a great morale booster for everyone here.
‘When we won the battle against closure of the school in April it all went a bit flat but this has been fun.’
Jane was nominated by classroom assistant Christine McCort who had heard about the annual competition on a radio programme.
Christine said: ‘I just went on the internet and nominated Jane. She puts so much into this school and I just feel we have been through such hard times with all the worry about the school closure.
‘She teaches all seven age groups, so has to read up and go on training courses seven times over.’
Jane teaches four days a week at Corrie and one at Kilmory. She has been at Corrie school for five years and thoroughly enjoys the family atmosphere.
Jane said: ‘The awards ceremony should be fun. There’s going to be a champagne reception followed by dinner, the awards and then a taxi laid on to get back to my hotel. And all paid for!’
