Division Two West

Paisley RFC 14

Isle of Arran RFC 13

A last-minute try denied Isle of Arran Rugby Club a winning start to the new season in the second division.

After being promoted from the third division last season, many of the players were nervous that it would be a whole different ball game this year.

But the team need not have worried as the players proved against Paisley, away from home on Saturday, that they deserve a place in the upper division. The first five minutes of the game were extremely exciting as Arran started to find their pace as a team again.

Speaking on the bus afterwards Arran’s captain, Murray Picken, said: ‘This was our first game in the second division and we proved that we deserved that promotion. It’s going to be an exciting season.’

The Arran Banner’s man of the match on Saturday was Kal Masia as he played an incredibly passionate game of rugby despite a nasty injury to his head.

This Saturday (September 6) Arran play Carrick RFC at the Ormidale Park in Brodick. Please come along and support the team.
