Four young members of Corrie Parish Church helped to brighten up the church’s annual fete on Tuesday.

Fiona Bulger, Saskia and Tabitha Thorburn and Ellis McKelvie donated their own toys and books to help raise money for a Christian charity.

By taking part in the Scottish Bible Society’s Breakfast Project, the Sunday School girls will help to buy bibles and food for Peruvian children.

Congregation member Lexie Andrade said: ‘They have done really well today and by raising money will ensure a few more Peruvian children living in poverty will at least have breakfast every day. Two pounds is enough to buy a bible for the children.’

The girls’ stall was just one of many at the fete which made Corrie and Sannox Village Hall a hive of activity.

Among the items on sale were plants, baking, handmade cards and jewellery and a putting green kept the competitive youngsters entertained.

But even the organisers were surprised to have a bric-a-brac stall. Anne Pringle explained: ‘We didn’t plan to have a bric-a-brac stall but we had so many generous donations. All the money raised, apart from what the girls make for the Breakfast Project, will go to church funds.’
