Sally Brookes and Eleanor Muirhead are trying to drum up local support for Shiskine Tennis Club and its recently resurfaced courts.

The club is affiliated to the golf club and has had all-weather courts for some years.

Sally of Southbank and Eleanor of Auchareoch are both accomplished and keen players and are hoping to get more people to use this first class facility.

Sally said: ‘The surface must be over 10 years old and had begun to hold water rather than drain away. Last year the club spent a substantial sum replacing the sand in the all-weather surface and renewing the fencing round the two courts. This surface doesn’t go for the knees like tarmac or shale.

‘Shiskine Golf and Tennis Club is keen to see more tennis being played throughout the year, not just in high summer.’

To encourage new players, there will be a taster afternoon from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday July 26. Eleanor said: ‘It is aimed at any standard and any age and there will be no charge.’

At the moment the few club members meet on Fridays from 4pm and would welcome more people. If there is enough interest there could be a juniors night.
