The 24th annual Shiskine Valley Sports enjoyed a cool but fine weekend.

All the usual attractions were on offer including a harmless-looking inflatable paddling pool filled with porridge which had a fatal attraction for Kirsty Barton and Alison Murchie who both ended up in there.

The duck derby was won by a yellow plastic duck apparently belonging to Becky Russell but the organisers have been unable to contact her. Duck number 728 was first across the line to win a prize of £100 but Sheila Gilmore said: ‘To date the hall committee has been unable to contact Becky and we are wondering if the phone number we have is correct. If anyone knows Becky and is reading this can you please get her to phone 01770 860403 to claim her prize.’

In a closely fought contest that saw Bloomfield’s Darth Vader duck disqualified for trying to sabotage the race the final results were:

1 £100 duck 728 Becky Russell, 2 £25 duck 7 Ian Fleming, 3 £10 duck 638 Fergus Chaplin, 4 £5 duck 144 Sheila Gilmore, 5 £5 duck 751 Patrick McMaster, 6 £5 duck 496 Elaine Henderson.
