Arran lifeboat crew has two new young members.
Craig Black and Craig Patterson joined the team this year and took part in the exercise at Lamlash pier last Sunday. Craig Black has been doing shore training and helping with exercises since January but was unable to join the crew until he was 17 years old on June 28.
He got his acceptance letter on July 2, exercised afloat for the first time on July 3 and had his first call on July 6.
Craig said: ‘Oh no! The RNLI is going to interview me and want to do a piece in the Lifeboat Magazine because you cannot join until you are 17 but I was accepted five days after my birthday, got my pager a day later and went on my first shout eight days after my birthday.’
Lifeboat operations manager Geoff Norris said: ‘Craig Black was desperate to join the crew and we agreed that he could help with the shore side of our operations for six months. The call out was an ideal introduction for him. We will continue with his training locally and send him on a course at Lifeboat College in Poole next year.’
