Arran lifeboat is called out twice on busy Sunday
Published:  11 July, 2008

Arran’s coastguard and lifeboat crews were called out twice on Sunday to separate incidents in Lamlash and Kildonan.

At 9.15am the coastguard was alerted to a yacht anchored off Holy Isle, which had a rope tangled around its propeller.

Later in the day they were called to a report of a dinghy near Kildonan Hotel with two adults and two children on board being blown towards Bennan Head by the strong winds.

Lifeboat operations manager, Geoff Norris, said: ‘The RNLI lifeboat, was launched to the 30ft yacht the Razorbill with helmsman Crawford Duncan, crewman Martin Ferris and probationary crew Craig Black.

‘They quickly established that although the four crew of the yacht had been concerned that they were going aground in the dropping tide, it was now rising. They were safe but needed assistance from a diver to free their propeller.’

A spokesman for the Coastguard said: ‘It was a busy day for us. Later we launched again to a dinghy at Kildonan.

‘The sea rescue helicopter was called to assist but in the end it wasn’t needed because when they arrived on the scene they discovered that the people had managed to make their own way ashore.’

Arran coastguard and ambulance teams attended to the two adults and two children to make sure they were not injured.
