It was his last game for Shiskine Football Club on Saturday night, and Australian Lachlan Jones made sure he would not be forgotten by scoring four crucial goals.
Playing in Blackwaterfoot, the boys in red had home advantage. Confident of victory Shiskine strode into the game early on with a quick shot beyond Stuart Lawson’s hands.
Being 1-0 up in the first ten minutes gave Shiskine a boost. Some aggressive play from Shiskine’s Jamie Murchie and Jamie Stewart kept the ball well within their team’s grasp.
Northend struggled to keep a hold of the ball as shiskine created further chances. Long passes from John Ferguson, Bryan MacCallum and Ian McLaren kept being intercepted by Shiskine and used to their advantage.
Eventually, towards the end of the first half Lachlan Jones found the target for his first goal of the match.
Stronger
It appears to be a habit of Northend to come on stronger in the second half and this game was no exception.
After Jones scored his second and third goals, Northend started to perk up, and in the 70th minute they were awarded a penalty.
Captain Matt Milne stepped up to the line and much to the supporters joy slotted the ball into the back of the net. 4-1
Now that Northend had that first goal they stormed into the game. Persistent play from Mark Wetton and Chris De Mendonca kept the ball well within Northend’s possession for the next five minutes and allowed Matt the chance to score again.
With Northend slowly catching up Shiskine went back on the attack, and not content with a hat trick Jones scored his fourth to make it 5-2
With just minutes to go, a long shot from Northend’s Bryan MacCallum sailed in to the goal, much to the disbelief of the fans, for a respectable 5-3 scoreline.
