It may be an odd purchase but a nuclear bunker on Arran which went on the market last November may have been sold.
Arran Estate Agents have been marketing the property near Kildonan, asking for offers over £25,000. This week Bob Brass of Arran Estate Agents confirmed the bunker was under offer.
He said he could not reveal any details about the purchase or purchaser due to client confidentiality.
The former bunker has been put on the market by the Royal Observer Corps. It has a raised entrance hatch, with a ladder leading six metres down to a living/bedroom area and a toilet.
The bunker has no mains electricity or running water but a 12-volt DC power supply can be harnessed using a car battery. There is an area of 501 square metres at ground level but development opportunities are restricted.
The bunker was built in the 1950s for volunteers to plot from inside the bunker the co-ordinates of potential nuclear explosions and report back to headquarters at Prestwick.
There are two other nuclear bunkers on the island, one at Drumadoon and one at Corriegills.
After the ROC disbanded in 1991 nuclear bunkers throughout the UK were closed. The Kildonan one came under private ownership.
