A host of Arran women, and even some men, are making their way to Edinburgh this weekend for the 2008 Moonwalk.
The event, now in its third year, will attract 12,000 men and women from all over Scotland with one mission; to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer charities.
They will be pounding the streets of Edinburgh in decorated bras of all sorts and colours to draw attention to the condition.
A number of other Arran Moonwalk groups that are bound for Edinburgh have already been featured in the Banner and now we are focusing on 14 young ladies from the high school who will be putting their best foot forward at midnight on Saturday.
Six S4 pupils, two S6 pupils, two former pupils, three members of staff and one parent will be heading for The Meadows where the 12,000 registered participants will step out as the clock strikes 12.
North Ayrshire Council sports co-ordinator Ann Hart said: ‘Our group is doing the full marathon course of 26.2 miles. We will be power walking; running or jogging is not allowed.
‘We have all been in training. The S4 girls have taken one period out of PE on a Friday afternoon to get in shape.’
School secretary Pauline Robertson said: ‘It should take us between six and eight hours and we are all raising money through sponsorship. With a bit of luck we should get back to Arran on Sunday afternoon!’
The Edinburgh Moonwalk raised more than £2 million for breast cancer research in 2007. Anyone wishing to add to the girls’ sponsorship should contact Arran High School.
