The new Whiting Bay medical centre is due to be in operation by the end of next week.

This purpose-built centre has been constructed in conjunction with the new medical centre in Shiskine which is featured on page 12 of this week’s Banner.

Local contractors Armitage Groundworks have organised the job and proprietor Struan Armitage said: ‘This is a conventional kit from Irvine but we have built it on a very tight site. There was also the problem of removing underground fuel tanks from when there was a garage here. But it is ready ahead of schedule.’

Practice manager Joyce Beasley said: ‘At the moment we plan to be open for half the day, five days a week which is more than the old surgery at Arnhall Lodge. This will be such an improvement for staff and patients.’

The building boasts an airy reception space, waiting room, consulting room, treatment room, multi-purpose consulting or training room, three public toilets and ample office space. All fittings are to the highest standard with stainless steel plumbing pipes. Hot water comes out of every tap at 48 degrees Celsius with the tap in the cleaner’s room being the only one to run hotter. There are six parking spaces outside and disabled access via a long ramp to the front door.

Joyce said: ‘This building is just magic compared to the old one. It will give an enhanced health service to the people of Whiting Bay.’

• Shiskine’s £1m medical centre on schedule to open later this month.
