Bishopton 10 Arran RFC 57
Arran’s senior team, full of up and coming youngsters, kept their promotion hopes alive with a resounding victory away to Bishopton.
Among the try scorers were Jamie Murchie, Sam Casey, Murray Picken, Fraser Gough Ian Keen, Lachlan Jones and Martin Ross.
Next home game is this Saturday at home against Jordanhill Phoenix, kick-off noon. This is followed by the final match of the season at home to Hyndland on Saturday May 10.
First team coach Bert Ramage said: ‘These are crunch games for us. If we win both of them we could be promoted back up to the second division. It will be a huge challenge but I think we can do it.’
Arran High School, meanwhile, beat Irvine 27-17 last Saturday.
Try scorers: Stuart McMaster, Jack Barbour, Robert Taylor with one each and Ryan Boal with two. One conversion by Sam Tattersfield.
Three team members who are expected to be heading off to the with Ayr Kestrels’ training camp are Jack Barbour, Liam Boal and Donald MacEachan. Young players from the island attend regular sessions on the mainland with Scottish Rugby Union officials attending to watch progress and single out the nation’s future rugby stars.
The young players join others from other areas in Ayrshire. An Arran contingent was due to go for a session on May 1.
Schools are invited to put forward their best players to go to the training camp. Arran Builders are acting as sponsors to put the Arran players up in Ayr at Monkton Lodge. They can also use a car from Ardrossan to Ayr owned by Billy Smith of Filtech, Machrie. Murray hopes more sponsors will come forward to help give young players a chance to go on to greater things.
