Blue puppy is finally named.....Blue
Published:  02 May, 2008

The little blue puppy that was born at Southbank Farm on April 1 has a name at last.

We featured the collie pup with an unusual colour in the Banner four weeks ago when farmer Geoff Brookes and his wife Sally asked for help in choosing a name. This resulted in a flood of suggestions from all over Britain and even two from America with a variety of names from more than 60 readers. The latest was Azul which apparently means blue in Spanish.

But on Tuesday Geoff said: ‘We have been overwhelmed with the response from readers. The Banner must go far and wide. Sally and I have chosen Blue partly because it has to be a name that you can shout out across a field full of sheep.’

Blue’s mum, three-year-old collie Shona, had a litter of six puppies and all are doing well so far. When the Banner called on Tuesday the pups were starting to lap up milk from a bowl and beginning to get adventurous.

Geoff said: ‘I’ll train Blue up and he should become a working and trialling dog. By 12 weeks old he will be showing an interest in sheep.’

We promised Geoff that we will call and see the pup in a couple of months so that readers can see how he is shaping up.
