Arran’s budding young football stars took part in the Arran Junior Football Club Primary Soccer Sevens competition at the Ormidale Park on Sunday afternoon.
Eight teams took part; Brodick, Corrie, Pirnmill, Shiskine A and B, Lamlash, Kilmory and Whiting Bay.
Playing on two pitches, there were some surprise results.
Corrie were beaten 6-0 by Lamlash and Shiskine B defeated their own A team 4-0.
Towards the end of the afternoon Corrie and Pirnmill drew 2-2 and Brodick and Kilmory drew 1-1.
The winning team was decided in the very last game of the tournament with Lamlash unbeaten and Shiskine B having lost only one game.
The Shiskine team beat Lamlash 3-0 so both teams ended up with six wins each and 18 points.In the end Shiskine B won the cup on goal difference. All the teams were made up of eight boys and girls from the island’s primary schools and every match lasted around 10 minutes with at least five minutes for each half.
The penalty competition was won by Whiting Bay with three penalties.
Man of the tournament award went to Jamie Mclaren (P5) of Corrie Primary School.
The Strathclyde Police Community Fund paid for the tournament, which encourages members of the community to work together to make Arran a safer place to live.
Ann Hart, active sports co-ordinator for North Ayrshire Council, said: ‘Thanks must go to Ian McLaren (senior) for running the event and to Ian McLaren (junior) for refereeing.
‘Jenna Wood must be thanked for very kindly recording the results and running the penalty competition.’
