Arran has a new RSPB information officer, Jo Totty, of Cladach.
Jo begins her new job at Easter and is planning a series of guided walks, community talks, family fun days, environmental education and awareness-raising events which she hopes will and inspire and educate people about the island’s incredible wildlife.
She starts on Easter Saturday (March 22) with some tours which follow Fisherman’s Walk in Brodick and allow the best views of birds such as eider ducks, oyster catchers, ringed plovers and perhaps a kingfisher.
Her high-powered telescope will allow walkers to have intimate views of the birds without disturbing them. There will also be a wildlife quiz for children.
Jo said: ‘You can never tell what you are going to see on a walk like this, but the wildlife on Arran is just so incredibly varied that I’m hoping we’re going to see a big selection.
‘This is a great opportunity to work off those Easter calories and learn something about the natural world at the same time.’
