An Arran business has braved flood and fire to keep going and has now moved into purpose-built premises in Lamlash.
Chrissy Duncan and her son Mark have just opened Arran’s first fully kitted-out laundry.
Chrissy started her business two and a half years ago in a large hut at Auchrannie Road, Brodick, but was flooded out after only two months when the Cloy Burn burst its banks.
Then, in September 2006 her venture looked doomed after it burnt to the ground in an unfortunate accident. It was gutted within five minutes, but, undaunted, Chrissy carried on in temporary premises.
Monday of this week was a happy day for Chrissy and Mark when they opened up afresh.
In just a couple of weeks they have transformed an empty shell of the ground floor below the Barr Construction site office in Park Terrace, Lamlash.
Chrissy said: ‘You could say that my business has risen like a phoenix out of the ashes. In the fire all the machines went; five washers and six driers destroyed. But the whole of Glen Estate came out to help. They took washing in to their own homes and got it ready for all my customers.’
