Northend are TV stars
BBC’s Countryfile programme also looks at island issues

Northend Thistle, reputedly Britain’s worst football team, were back in the limelight this week when they were filmed for a well-known television programme.

On Monday night, Northend played Shiskine at the all-weather pitch in Brodick and were filmed being defeated 5-0.

The team had drafted in some players from other Arran teams for the night but still failed to win the game.

Northend Thistle attracted the interest of the BBC’s Countryfile producers when in September they were named in a national newspaper as Britain’s worst team for not winning a game in more than 15 years.

There to watch them was Countryfile’s chief presenter John Craven.

Northend player Norman Bond said: ‘They arrived on Friday to do a bit of filming and they came back on Monday morning. They spent most of the day filming in the Catacol Bay Hotel and at the Hay Field in Lochranza.’

Countryfile highlights rural and environmental issues and celebrates the countryside of the British Isles.

The episode that will feature Northend will also focus on wider issues affecting Arran.
