Two Arran Banner readers have won a prize of a meal for two at the new Auchrannie restaurant.
Phil and Kath De Courcy, of The Barn Bed and Breakfast, Glencloy, won their prize by coming up with the name of ‘eighteen 69 restaurant.’ This refers to the year when the original Auchrannie Hotel was built.
Early last month the Auchrannie launched a competition in the Banner to find a name for the new restaurant being built to replace the Garden Restaurant.
Lyndsey Canavan, marketing supervisor for Auchrannie Leisure Limited, said: ‘The new restaurant replaces the famous flagship 2 AA rosette Garden Restaurant. There will be more seating for up to 65 people and the old part of the dining room will become a plush, stylish lounge with an open fire.
‘Mr and Mrs De Courcy have won a meal for two including wine in the new restaurant. Auchrannie would like to thank everyone who entered as it was a great success.’
‘The new restaurant will have space for non-diners to come in just for drinks, something we couldn’t really offer before. We plan to offer champagne by the glass and other premium items for that special night out in relaxed surroundings.’
The hotel was built as a house by a Glasgow merchantman and acquired at the end of the 19th century by the Dowager Duchess of Hamilton. The original house was extended by the Duchess and again by the current owners, the Johnston family, in 1988 and 1991.
The Garden Restaurant conservatory was built in 1988 and demolished in February to make way for the new building.
