A TWELVE-year-old Brodick girl needed more than 40 stitches to facial injuries after being attacked by a dog at Largymore, Whiting Bay.

The incident happened between on Thursday afternoon, February 21, and the girl was taken by helicopter to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment.

Police said that the incident is the subject of a report to the procurator fiscal under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

No further information was available at the time of going to press.

The Banner was unable to contact the girl’s parents.

In a separate incident at Benlister, Lamlash, at 3pm on Monday, a dog allegedly attacked and injured another dog.

The owner has been reported to the procurator fiscal for an offence under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Police sergeant Bob MacKay said: ‘Dog owners should realise that the person in charge of a dog should be in control of it. The essence of these two incidents is that the dogs appear not to have been under control.’
