Blackwaterfoot Lodge goes on sale
Published:  28 February, 2008

As the number of hotels on Arran slowly decreases, a Glasgow estate agent announced the sale of another one this week, Blackwaterfoot Lodge at Blackwaterfoot.

Built at the end of the 19th century, it has eight letting bedrooms, a 20-cover dining room, a guest lounge, and a separate self-catering cottage. It is on the market for £495,000.

Robbie Crawford, owner of the neighbouring Kinloch Hotel, believes the sale could be good for business.

He said: ‘The sale of the lodge could actually be good for the Kinloch. There are less and less places to eat on this island, which is worrying. We can cope on busy nights but it would be good if the Blackwaterfoot Lodge did expand its business. Choice is good for everyone.’

Although being sold as a going concern there is nothing to prevent the new owner turning it into a house or self-catering apartments. Graeme Smith from Christie and Co’s Glasgow office, who is handling the sale, said: ‘Blackwaterfoot Lodge has been owned and operated by the owners for the past seven years.

‘The lodge has built up an excellent reputation and is known throughout the island for its homely atmosphere, which has resulted in ample repeat business along with local recommendations and passing trade.’
