Police on Arran have warned drivers that their insurance may be invalid if cars and vans are left unlocked and/or with the keys left in the ignition.
They issued the warning following the theft of two vans in Lamlash last weekend. Both had been left unlocked with keys in the ignition.
A Ford Escort van was taken from Park Terrace on Friday night and later found crashed and badly damaged on the Lamlash to Whiting Bay road having rolled over into a field. In the early hours of Saturday a Citroen Berlingo van was stolen from Hamilton Terrace and found crashed at Cordon.
A police spokesman said scenes of crime investigations have been carried out and items have been sent for DNA analysis.
Sergeant Stevie Leary said: ‘Motorists should be aware that their insurance may be invalid if a vehicle is left unlocked and then stolen. Most vehicles are fitted with sophisticated immobilisers these days and very few locked cars are taken by thieves.’
