It was a clean sweep for Isle of Arran Rugby Club at the weekend as all three teams triumphed over their opponents.
Much to the surprise of the players, the seniors won 20-14 against Birkmyre in round one of the Scottish Hydro Electric plate competition.
Despite being 9-0 down at half time in Kilmacolm, a break through try in the first 10 minutes of the second half from Jamie Murchie, which was converted by Lachlan Jones, gave Arran a much needed seven points.
Ben Tattersfield crossed the line and was awarded a try, which was then converted by Lachlan Jones.
Lachlan Jones converted and went on to score a drop goal and a penalty kick.
Birkmyre are currently in division two of the Scottish Hydro Electric West League and Arran didn’t expect to win.
Captain Murray Picken said: ‘It was a tough game but we played really well. We had a good strong defence and good discipline. We’re looking forward to the game this weekend.’
This Saturday (February 16) Arran will play Clydebank in the second round of the plate competition. The game sponsored by Armitage Groundworks kicks off at 2pm at the Ormidale Park.
On Sunday February 10, Arran Junior Boys went to Kilmarnock and the Arran Girls travelled to Cumnock.
The boys played two teams and in the first game they defeated Kilmarnock 21-19.
Robert Taylor scored all three tries and captain Sam Tattersfield converted all three.
Liam Boal may not have scored any tries but he was named man of the match for his contribution to the game.
Next the boys played Cumnock and they managed to come from two tries to nil to win by three tries with a final score of 31-17.
Tries were scored by Patrick Taylor, Liam Boal, Ryan Boal and Robert Taylor, who scored two.
Sam Tattersfield was the kicker for the day and converted three of five tries and Patrick Taylor was named man of the match this time.
Meanwhile in Cumnock the Arran Girls stormed ahead against their opponents.
The game was played in three parts of ten minutes.
The final score for the girls was 15 tries to 10 (75-50) with every member of the team scoring at least one try.
Captain Jenna Wood was deservedly named woman of the match for her great input into the game.
Player Shauna Jameson said: ‘We all had a great day but unfortunately the day was marred when Scott Currie had to go to Crosshouse with an injured leg. At least he made it back with us even although he was on crutches. Get well soon Scott!’
