MSPs will hear islanders views on ferry services
Published:  15 February, 2008

Arran residents will next month be able to air their views about ferry services at a meeting in Brodick.

The Scottish parliament committee on transport, infrastructure and climate change is coming to Arran.

The meeting is expected to take place on March 17 at 2pm, venue to be confirmed.

Attending will be Green MSP Patrick Harvie, SNP Highlands and Islands MSP Rob Gibson, Arran’s SNP MSP Ken Gibson and Claire O’ Neil.

Ken Gibson said the committee would be particularly interested in comments about ferry routes, frequency and timetabling of services; ferry capacity; integration with other forms of transport; and if competition affects ferry services.

‘As well as these issues the committee is interested in hearing views on any other subjects relating to ferry services in Scotland,’ he said.

‘I myself am keen to look at the impact of ferry disruption due to inclement weather.’

He urged as many islanders as possible to attend the meeting.

‘Reliable ferry services are vital to the well-being and prosperity of Arran’s people and communities and this enquiry presents an ideal opportunity to listen to as many different views of what is working well and what can be improved,’ he added.

Anyone with any views must express them to the committee by writing to it by post or email by March 31.

Leaflets have been distributed at ferry terminals, on ferries and in libraries inviting views to the committee, which will publish a report in June.
