Planning permission has been granted for 10 houses on the Cairnhouse Farm site in Blackwaterfoot, with room for a further 46 in the future.
The North Ayrshire Council planning committee approved a development brief for Cairnhouse Farm on February 26 last year. The overall site was split into three areas with the capacity for 56 houses.
The applicant, John Thomson Construction, proposes two separate designs for the ten houses, three with either three or four bedrooms. The larger house would have an attached single garage, while the smaller would have a single detached garage.
Objections were received from a number of people who say the number of houses was too high for the size of the site.
The statement of objection said: ‘Why is such a large increase being made, as the village is considerably smaller than Brodick, Lamlash and Whiting Bay? There is no evidence of demand for 56 houses.’
The planner’s response was: ‘The Local Plan recognises Blackwaterfoot as a secondary location for development, being the main settlement for development on the west coast of the island.’
