Shop, tearoom and houses

Residents in Kilmory voted unanimously on Wednesday night to aim to build a new shop in the centre of the village.

Since the closure of Kilmory Stores and post office a year ago villagers have been trying to establish a community-run shop.

At a meeting of the Kilmory Public Hall Committee chairman Duncan Mulholland explained: ‘Basically we have two options. We can either continue to pursue the purchase of the existing shop in Lagg or we can create a new shop and tearoom with off-road parking in the centre of Kilmory. The National Lottery is more willing to fund a new build outright.’

The area of land proposed for the new shop is the field between Torrylinn Farm and Torylinn Creamery.

Mr Mulholland said: ‘Nothing can be done until Mr Fforde agrees to sell the land. Once this happens, John Lamb proposes to build a new shop, tearoom and a number of affordable houses. We would then be able to purchase the new shop for around £130,000.’

• The new Kilmory hall post office opening has been delayed until Tuesday, February 19.
