Kilmory has a post office again after a year.
As The Arran Banner went to press, Post Office Limited Scotland announced that it will be set up in Kilmory Village Hall on Tuesdays and Fridays between 10am and 2pm.
Last year the owners of the combined post office and shop closed the premises and villagers have been using the one at Kildonan five miles away.
Duncan Mulholland, chairman of the village hall committee, said everyone was delighted to have the post office back.
Since its closure villagers have fought to get it back and the next move is to get a shop up and running again.
Duncan said: ‘The shop and the post office were separable but we knew that if we didn’t move on the post office it would have remained closed.’
Karen Bragg, field change adviser for Post Office Limited, said: ‘I hope that local people use this branch and give it as much support as possible.’
A meeting about the possible re-opening of Kilmory shop as a community enterprise will take place during the village hall annual meeting at 7.30pm on Wednesday.
It is a chance for villagers to discuss possibly purchasing the old shop or acquiring land for a new-build.
Hall manager Kirstin Napier said an update on progress including the pursual of a lottery grant application to help to buy the shop would be given.
