Planning permission is being sought for a development of six chalets on the hillside overlooking The Lakin Farm, Shiskine.
The plans were submitted by John Betley of Lakin Farm and include space for a further 10 chalets to be built in the future.
The six timber buildings will be located on scrubland westwards above Lakin, sandwiched between conifers to the west and a beech hedge to the east.
Shiskine community councillor Neil Arthur said North Ayrshire Council planning committee did not usually approve the building of chalets.
Mr Arthur said: ‘This is a very new application and I know that chalet developments have not been well received in the past.
‘The applicant is also considering building traditional-style stone cottages if the chalets are not acceptable.
‘At the moment all the signs point to holiday and tourist letting rather than a residential development.’
Each chalet will have four bedrooms, two bathrooms and kitchen/ dining area in the lounge.
Phase two of the development would see a further 10 chalets erected on the south section of the site with a play area and amenity block. This would be subject to a separate planning application.
John Betley was not available to comment.
