Rubbish dumped by uncaring wild campers near famous tourist attraction on Arran is to be removed.
The island’s waste awareness officer, Brodie Pearcey, said he would make every effort to ensure the shoreline near The King’s Cave at Blackwaterfoot would be cleaned up as soon as possible.
He has sent a new year message to islanders – please report anything like this either to him or the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).
‘Please be vigilant as perpetrators like this can be taken to court through SEPA,’ he said.
He said if people saw anything suspicious or any vehicle that may have been involved in dumping rubbish anywhere on the island to contact SEPA at Newton Stewart on 01671 402618 or the Dumb Dumpers hotline 0845 230 4090 which operates day and night.
Last week the Banner highlighted the mess left behind by wild campers down at the shoreline near the cave. It included an old tarpaulin used as a groundsheet or tent, the remnants of a large bonfire, drinks cans, abandoned clothing and other rubbish.
