Police and workmen on Arran are busy clearing up after the massive storm which hit the island on Tuesday night.
At times winds gusted up to 105mph with an average speed recorded of 89mph.
The ‘violent storm 11’ also resulted in many CalMac ferry disruptions and cancellations, particularly to the Western Isles.
The ferry from Brodick to Ardrossan was also disrupted on Tuesday night and spent the early hours of Wednesday taking refuge in Lamlash Bay with other vessels affected by the high winds and high tide.
By Wednesday afternoon the wind had quietened enough for the ferry to sail from Brodick at 4.40pm.
Overnight on Tuesday both the Ross and String roads were closed because of worsening weather conditions and workmen and police also had a busy night clearing fallen trees along the road at Merkland and elsewhere and dealing with a considerable amount of surface water on the island’s roads.
Several 200-year-old trees in Brodick Castle grounds were also brought down and at one stage the sea spilled on to the road near the castle.
