Family ceilidh provides a superb evening
Published:  03 January, 2008

Lamlash villagers and islanders from elsewhere turned out for the last event to be held in the much-loved Lamlash Community Centre last Saturday night.

Dancers and watchers of all ages enjoyed a superb family ceilidh of dancing and listening to the Boguillie Band, with band member Terry Stevens as a brilliant caller for the evening, taking old and young through the dances with expertise and aplomb.

The ceilidh also included a raffle for many prizes and an auction of a Rangers football signed by club players for charity.

Guests brought their own food and drink for the event with tables groaning under the weight of tasty festive food and drinks of juice and other stronger tipples.

The hall was beautifully decorated with a sparkling Christmas tree and balloons in a net suspended from the ceiling.

The community centre will move to the new Arran High School next year.

Some people graced the occasion in kilts while others opted for a more comfortable style, but pride of the evening was the community centre’s caretaker Alan Little who put on full Highland dress for the occasion.

Alan’s job will move over to the new Arran High School which has community facilities including a theatre.
