New home for Arran Show
Published:  27 December, 2007

The Arran Show has a new home.

Two years ago the annual agricultural show was forced to move from its home of more than 60 years in Lamlash to make way for a new high school and now it has to move again.

Arran Farmers Society chairman Dawn Murchie said: ‘We managed to successfully hold the show in the field on Brodick Castle drive for two years but the farmer Alec Read has to plough it for cereals next year.

‘He and landowner Charles Fforde have kindly allowed us to move to another field for the coming years. In 2006 the society overcame the obstacles of holding a major event on a green field site with no mains services and the 2008 show will take place in Sandy’s Field on Wednesday, August 6.’

Sandy’s Field is a large grass park on the right-hand side of the drive from Arran Haulage to Murchie Sand and Gravel.

Car parking will be in the field on the opposite side of the road as it was last year.

Arran Farmers Society was founded in the Brodick Inn at Cladach on January 30, 1830 and is the oldest organisation on the Island.

The Arran Show is one of the big island events of the year.
