Two talented young artists from Arran High School have had their work featured on the front cover of North Ayrshire Council’s educational services calendar for 2008.
Rebecca Coulthard (S5) and Kirsty MacBain (S6) produced a screen print together that represents their interpretation of ‘Scottish identity’.
Rebecca said: ‘In October Kirsty and I were lucky enough to be chosen to go to a special workshop in Palma, Mallorca, for five days. There were 16 of us and we were taught how to do different kinds of screen-printing.
‘Kirsty and I produced our own prints. One was a self-portrait and the other was a landscape of Goatfell. They eventually chose a double portrait with half of each of our faces on it to be on the front cover of the calendar.’
Both girls are studying higher art and Rebecca said she has a keen interest in an artistic career.
‘I’ve always been interested in art and I like to be creative. I would very much like to go to art school some day,’ she added.
Unfortunately Kirsty was not available to have her picture taken.
