Sea society’s successful fayre in Lochranza
Published:  21 December, 2007

A successful Christmas Fayre was held in Lochranza Village Hall on Saturday December 8 in aid of Lochranza and Catacol Sea Society.

Julie Graham, a member of the society, said: ‘We raised £346 for the sea society which was a miracle given the weather on the day.’

For eager visitors to the fayre there was jumble and bric a brac, second-hand books, jewellery and a welcome cup of tea with scones and cakes.

The sea society is currently trying to raise funds for the proposed pontoon network in Lochranza bay.

The plans were given the go ahead in early November and it is now up to the sea society to raise the extra money needed.

Studies show that the development will cost in the region of £158,000 which includes consultancy fees, planning permissions and maintenance of the pontoon.

The association has applied for grants but for this to be feasible 30 per cent of the project costs must be met by private sector income. Of this amount the association can provide approximately £18,000 in materials and funds, leaving a shortfall of around £29,000.
