Arran’s generosity
Published:  21 December, 2007

Earlier this year David Oakes compiled a quiz sheet to raise money for the Arran branch of Save the Children.

The sheets were displayed in many outlets around the island and although they were only 50p per sheet, by December they had raised a total of £1092.50.

Kathleen Turner a member of the group said: ‘Thank you to all who bought the sheets, visitors included, and to all the outlets who distributed them, please accept our heartfelt thanks.

‘Very grateful thanks to David for composing the quiz, to Margaret Shaw who had to continually organise reprints and to Aileen Wright who coordinated the whole operation.’

Last week the group held an informal coffee morning and afternoon attended by some seventeen friends in aid of the Bangladesh flood victims.

They raised the magnificent sum of £123.

Kathleen added: ‘Thanks to all who attended for your outstanding generosity, to Margaret Shaw for showing her excellent DVD of Laos and Thailand, to Margaret Auld for her baking, her scones are heavenly, and to both for their help with the event.

‘Finally I would like to thank all the committee members for their continued support and generosity of time and energy throughout the year.’
