A deluge of sporting activities over the past few weeks has resulted in a win for the on-form S1 rugby team, two close-run rugby defeats and three football losses to Ayrshire sides.
The S1 rugby team travelled to Carrick recently to win 39-0 - a fitting revenge for the 41-42 and 17-5 losses that were inflicted by Carrick on the older teams. The S1 team will no doubt be looking forward to the next Scottish cup game after such a convincing win.
The S1/2 football team travelled to Ardrossan to lose 6-2. The only goal scorer for Arran was Matthew Evans, firstly from a free kick, which he followed up with a fantastic strike.
The S3 football team travelled to Greenwood Academy, losing 8-0. Team manager Craig Black commented: ‘Arran really tried, but against a team like Greenwood we just don’t have a big enough pool of players.’
Another match saw the same team go down 6-0 to Ardrossan.
The S2/3 rugby team had better luck playing a very close game against Carrick. Arran was in the lead until the last few seconds, when Carrick scored and converted to make the score 41-42. Arran was unfortunate not to win as they had had a number of tries disallowed and allegations of dodgy point counting led many to believe Arran had still won the game. Whether or not this was the case, it can still be said that the Arran versus Carrick games were the best played by all year groups this season.
