Once again, the Russian vocal ensemble Voskresenije performed in Lochranza Village Hall. Having missed last year because of disruption to ferry services in bad weather, local people were eager to hear them and the concert was well attended.
The ensemble - four female voices, four male voices and their conductor - sang Russian sacred music and folk songs. The members are all studying at St Petersburg Conservatoire and have been touring since October 2.
The first half of the programme evoked a sadness and spirituality unique to Russia, delivered perfectly by the combined power and sweetness of the various voices, while the second half produced all the gaiety, enthusiasm and lust for life of Russian folk music.
The concert was hosted by the village hall committee and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
The members of the ensemble were: Yuri Maruk (conductor), Elena Chickunova, Olga Silouk, Katerina Sorova, Olga Shiryaeva, Anatoly Arkamonov, Eduard Cherepnin, Bronin Vsevolod, Pavel Derkech.
After the concert a well-attended party was given for the ensemble, generously hosted by Ethne Cumming from Lochranza, with members of the audience also present.
