Arran’s first baby born on the island to Polish parents was presented with a basket of goodies at the Co-op store in Brodick last Wednesday.
Manager Liz Mclean said: ‘Some of our polish staff here in the store drew my attention to the fact that this is the first Polish baby to be born on Arran. We thought it would be nice to give them a basket of goodies for the baby to help welcome little Jasiu (John) Matusiak into the community.’
Gosia gave birth just seven weeks ago and both she and the baby are doing very well.
Dad Robert works in the Co-op store along with 20 other Polish immigrants.
He said: ‘We are very happy to receive this basket of baby supplies. Thank you.’
A spokesman for the Co-op said: ‘When any member of our staff has a baby, gets married or celebrates their birthday, we try to acknowledge it. We felt the Polish baby was something quite special and that it should be celebrated. We see it as a good way of welcoming the family into the community.’
