Local man Paul Archer from Lamlash was one of the lucky Arran Banner photo competition winners for 2007.
His picture Lochranza race, Catacol in sight really impressed our judge, Howard Driver.
Paul is a talented amateur photographer and he rarely goes out without a camera.
His prize was a very nice Nikon Coolpix digital camera so he will never miss an important shot again.
John McGuigan from Dalry also won a camera for his wonderful picture, Hawking on Arran.
Winning The Arran Banner photographic competition has led to some promising careers in the past.
In 1993 it led to a successful new career as a professional photographer for Alice Martin.
Her stunning sunset photo of a group of stags in the water in Lochranza Bay not only won the Banner competition 14 years ago but was recognised and featured in the magazine Amateur Photographer.
This photo has been reproduced and widely sold at most Arran gift shops. Her success was the springboard to setting up a business and establishing herself as a wedding photographer of some repute.
Nowadays she is to be seen regularly at work at many Island weddings.
Get snapping now because it is never to early to think about possible entries for next year’s Banner competition and photos of winter scenes on the Island are just as likely to win as a typical summer beach snap.
