Published:  01 December, 2007

An injured Arran woman car driver was airlifted to hospital on the mainland on Wednesday after an accident on the A841 road between Whiting Bay and Lamlash.

A police spokesman said the woman received slight injuries and was flown off the island as a precaution.

She was kept in Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock overnight.

The accident, involving a car and a Land Rover pulling a trailer of wood, happened at approximately 2.40pm.

Traffic built up in both directions after police closed the road and motorists were diverted along the Ross Road.

Officers spent nearly three hours at the accident scene carrying out an investigation before clearing the road.

Police confirmed that the drivers of both vehicles were from the Island.
