Published:  01 December, 2007

A ferry passenger was injured on Saturday moring when an object, believed to by a piece of plate glass, fell on her head during a rough crossing.

The lady from the mainland was sitting in the cafeteria of the MV Caledonian Isles during the 9.45am sailing from Ardrossan to Brodick when she was injured.

Witnesses say they saw a piece of plate glass fall on to the woman’s head.

A spokesman for Caledonian MacBrayne said: ‘I can confirm that a lady was taken to hospital in Brodick off the Saturday sailing. She returned on the 13.50 sailing. The incident happened during a particularly rough berthing and is the subject of a formal investigation internally.

‘Until such time as that is complete, I can make no further comment.’

Due to the poor weather conditions at the weekend the ferry service was badly disrupted.

On Saturday evening both the 4.40pm from Brodick and 6pm sailing from Ardrossan were unable to sail stranding a large number of shoppers on the mainland.
