Cadets’ fundraising efforts praised
Published:  24 November, 2007

The island’s Royal British Legion praised Arran’s Army Cadets on Tuesday night for all of their hard work throughout the year.

Ted Godfrey, member of the Arran branch said the youngsters deserved a big thank you for helping the British Legion members to raise money for the organisation.

‘These youngsters are always on hand to help out at stalls. Without them it would be a great deal more difficult for us to raise money for our organisations.’

Hazel White chairman of the British Legion presented commanding officer of the cadets Craig Hamilton with a certificate.

Mrs White said: ‘We are presenting this certificate to you as a token of our appreciation for the help you have given us. Whenever we hold a fundraising event the cadets are always available to lend a hand and we are very grateful for that.’

During the summer the cadets can always been found manning tombola stalls at the Brodick Highland Games and the Agricultural Show. They also take part in parades and the collections for the poppy appeal on Remembrance Day.

CO Craig Hamilton said: ‘We are honoured to receive this certificate. Just think, these could be future British Legion members.’

The Royal British Legion provides financial, social and emotional support to armed forces personnel.
