Arran represented at Whitehall Cenitaph march past
Published:  17 November, 2007

An Arran man, who took part in the march past the Whitehall Cenitaph on Remembrance Sunday says this year’s march was ‘a great experience’.

Peter Harper, a member of Royal British Legion Scotland Arran branch travelled to London with his wife, Jennifer. Fellow islander and Arran branch secretary Tony Wall also attended the event.

However, Peter and Jennifer attended the event two years ago and noticed a change in atmosphere this year.

Peter told The Arran Banner: ‘At the Festival of Remembrance on Saturday night in the Royal Albert Hall, it was a different type of service than usual.

‘There was a lot less ministry involved but more of it was directed to the youngsters that are fighting today.

‘During the march on Sunday I noticed one or two youngsters who, I think, were marching in place of their fathers.’
