A Whiting Bay couple have left the island to the sound of the bagpipes as they prepare for a new life in New Zealand.
Frank Mitchell surprised his wife, Ann, by asking Kier Murdo to play as they boarded the MV Caledonian Isles for the 1.50pm crossing on Wednesday.
The couple said they wanted to see more of their daughter, Shula, and their grandchildren who moved to New Zealand five years ago.
The Mitchell’s will be living in a small town north of Auckland.
Frank said: ‘We love Arran will be sorry to leave but we want to be closer to the family.’
