Twenty years ago the former minister of Brodick and Corrie churches, Rev Dr Ian MacLeod, published the first of a trilogy of books.
Intended for use by clergy and worship leaders at school assemblies, the first was entitled Talks for Children, later to be followed by More Talks and Even More Talks.
This year, the publisher, St Andrew Press of Edinburgh, decided to republish the first of these which Dr MacLeod had written together with a co-author, but, since they were unable to locate her, they then asked Ian to supply enough material to replace what she had written, an extra 22 talks, to complete the book.
This done, it now appears under a new title, Stories for Children.
Ian said: ‘I was glad of the opportunity because I have been able to incorporate into it a fair amount of material which I wrote for use in my churches in more recent years, besides updating the ‘Practical Section’ of the whole book to allow for the fact that most youngsters now use the Internet.’
The book appeared in bookshops last week and may be of particular interest to those who first heard these stories told as children’s addresses in church or school.
Ian has also just completed another book, which is presently with the publisher and should appear in February.
Entitled, The Weakest Link, it is a book of Communion Sermons, a sequel to Preaching on the Lord’s Supper published by Mowbray/Casells 20 years ago.
