Skipping towards a healthy life
Published:  17 November, 2007

For the last week of the October term, Kilmory Primary School participated in a Health Week.

School nurse Moira Miller visited Kilmory over two days to talk about healthy eating and food choices one day and healthy relationships on the second day.

Anne Hart, Active Schools Co-ordinator put the children and teachers through their paces with a ‘Health Hustle’.

All the work for the week was focussed on different aspects of health.

In addition to this, primary one, two, three and four had their usual two hours of physical education (PE) per week from Mrs Auld and primary five, six and seven had one hour of PE as well as swimming with Mr Evans.

Mrs Auld had been training the children to skip for the British Heart Foundation’s ‘Jump Rope for Heart’ event that took place on Friday afternoon.

One of the teachers from Kilmory Primary School said: ‘This was a very successful afternoon.

‘We were joined by parents and friends who were very impressed with our team and individual skipping.

‘Parents and friends, including Mr Parker, our head-teacher’s husband, joined us and all had great fun skipping.’

Mr Parker had a quadruple heart bypass operation in July because of a hereditary heart problem and is now fully recovered and will be returning to work at Arran High School.

Kilmory Primary raised £400 in their ‘Jump Off’ and Mr Parker was on hand to accept the cheque on behalf of the British Heart Foundation.

Thanks must go to everyone who sponsored them form all the staff and pupils at the school.
