Road tax rebel offers PO five per cent
Published:  09 November, 2007

James Webb attempted to pay his road tax at Brodick Post Office on Friday.

He claims only five per cent of the £180 he spends on road tax is put back into road maintenance so he tried to renew his tax disc by paying £9 – five percent of the total cost.

Unsurprisingly postmistress Janice Small refused to take the payment.

James from Brodick said the roads on Arran have been in a poor condition for a long time and that his road tax payment is not being put to proper use.

In the past the council and the government have been criticised for spending only five percent of their budget on Arran’s roads.

James says he may be forced to disband his mobile cleaning business because he is unable to pay the high tax and petrol costs for his work van.
