Lamlash Lifeboat was called to an injured walker in the north of the island at 1pm on Tuesday.
Jo Hastings’ walking group, the J Walkers, were halfway through their third walk, this time around the Cock of Arran, when Steve Williams slipped and broke his ankle.
Jo and her companions assessed the situation, and decided that without assistance they could not get Steve back to a position where he could receive medical attention. They took the decision to call the Coastguard, and the lifeboat was dispatched immediately to the grid reference that Jo had supplied.
Allan Little from Lamlash Lifeboat Station said: ‘We got the call at 1.38pm and upon our arrival two crew members went ashore and quickly strapped Steve’s ankle. Another crew member went ashore and placed him, and the remainder of the party, plus his dog (Vicky), in the boat, and took them to Lochranza.
‘At Lochranza Steve was immediately transferred to the waiting ambulance, and taken to the hospital in Lamlash were his ankle was x-rayed and placed in a plaster cast.’
The J Walkers were on hand to take Steve, and Vicky back to his home, where he will recover, and get fit and ready to walk again in a few weeks time.
The J Walkers would like to thank both the R.N.L.I, and Ambulance crews for their speedy response, advice, courtesy, and attention to Steve’s injury.
Lamlash Lifeboat was called out again last week when four drunken men got into difficulties in Lochranza.
The boat was reportedly dragging its anchor in the bay.
Mr Little said: ‘The lifeboat was launched in the early hours of Saturday morning at 2.50am and made its way to Lochranza. It was decided to take the 8.5 metre cabin cruiser Scalliwag and its four male occupants, who were maybe not as on the ball as they should have been after enjoying a drink earlier, in tow to a safe mooring in Lochranza Bay.
‘A lifeboat crewmember was put aboard the vessel and after securing the towropes the boat and its occupants were put onto a safe mooring. After this was done the four men were taken ashore to be met by the coastguard and the boat owner.’
