Worst team in Britain keep trying
Published:  12 October, 2007

Northend Thistle may be Arran’s, and Britain’s worst football team, but that doesn’t stop them training during the winter months and trying to improve.

On Monday evenings at 6.30pm the team meet in the Auchrannie Gym for a game of football to keep up the practice during the winter.

In 15 years Northend have never won a game and earlier this year they featured in a number of newspapers, radio shows and on television as Britain’s worst football team.

Many followers of the team believe that their first win is within grasp.

By training during the winter they may improve enough to win their first ever game during next summer’s football season. None of the other teams on Arran from Shiskine, Brodick, Lamlash and the Southend train during the winter.

One Northend player said: ‘This is really just a bit of fun to keep us fit in the winter. We know that the team hasn’t done well but we enjoy playing football and that’s the main thing.

‘We don’t care if we are the worst team in Britain, it’s just for fun.’

Anyone is welcome to go along on Monday evenings if they fancy a bit of football practice during the winter.
