Russians savour all Arran has to offer
Published:  12 October, 2007

Gradually the Island of Arran has been attracting increasing numbers of visitors from all around the world.

Last week seven Russians came to Arran to savour all that ‘Scotland in miniature’ has to offer.

The group consisted of some of the most influential Russian beverage buyers looking to find out more about Arran’s products and the place where they come from.

Staying at the Kinloch Hotel they were given the opportunity to try some of the island’s finest foods including the cheese, oatcakes, fish, beer, whisky, ice cream and chocolate.

On the Tuesday morning the group were taken up to the North end of the island where they had an opportunity to look around Lochranza Castle before being taken up to the distillery.

One of them told The Banner: ‘This is a beautiful island and I would love to stay here forever. It’s just wonderful.’

Here they were shown how the whisky distillation process actually works and they tasted the range of whiskies produced by the company.

If the trip is a success they will be taking back large quantities of the Arran whisky to be sold in Russia.

The trip followed a very successful visit to Russia by the Isle of Arran Distillery’s managing director, Douglas Davidson earlier this year.

Whilst in Russia he presented Arran whisky at a number of tastings in shops and restaurants in Moscow and St Petersburg.

The group has now travelled on to Islay where they will visit the Bruichladdich Distillery before they travel north to see the Highlands.
